HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

The concept of AppSir was founded by Darius Guerrero back in 2015 with the thought “I want to make a game for Daphne Ayala and I want it to be like this…”

Darius, a psychology major graduate who was working as the Regional Training Specialist for the Philippine government at the time, needed technical assistance from IT friends, forums, and free online tutorials. After eight months he was able to release his first game on the App Store (Source: PewPewCat.com).

Despite initially treating game development as a mere hobby, Darius eventually saw value in the creation of a brand for his works. In coming up with the name and logo he sought the advice of Maryan Duritan, a professional illustrator who worked on children's books, game designs, step-by-step illustrations, and digital paintings (see some of her work here).

The mission was to build a distinct business-oriented name that’s easy and simple enough for anyone to understand. AppSir pronounced as “ap- sər” was the name decided upon after considering various options.

To visually communicate AppSir’s identity at the time, a logo was created with a personal and noteworthy touch:

The logo, made in the likeness of Darius, perfectly reflected AppSir's status at the time. It was mainly the personal endeavor of Darius who worked as sole app developer and publisher while closely collaborating with Daphne for marketing efforts. Despite this, AppSir was able to efficiently deliver iOS and Android software end-to-end.

However, Darius and Daphne were unable to anticipate that the logo itself will come to present a big hurdle because of what happened NEXT.
